Book 3 of the Caledonia Fae urban fantasy series

With a young, inexperienced monarch on the Caledonian throne and traitorous plots implicating those nearest Queen Eilidh, unrest is rife in the kingdom. She must sift through the intrigues and lies to survive, all while trying to discover which of her trusted companions hates her enough to commit mass murder.

Pressures threaten to overcome the young ruler, and to protect Quinton Munro, her bonded druid, she must send him away. His journey becomes a mission when he stumbles on an ancient truth that will shake the foundations of the entire faerie realm. Confronted by infinite danger and the promise of limitless power, Munro faces the most difficult choices of his life. Will he hide the truth to preserve stability in the faerie kingdoms or embrace the promise of his true druid heritage?

One friend will die because of that truth, one friend’s betrayal will cause irreparable scars, and the once tightly-knit band of druids will learn that not all magic is benevolent.

Enemy of the Fae Caledonia Fae Book 3 eBook India Drummond

I loved EVERY ONE of these books. Blood Faerie was my VERY FIRST trip to a faerie world (the fantasy genre is fairly new to me). I knew as soon as I finished it that, without a doubt, I wanted to read the rest of the series. I enjoyed getting acquainted with so many interesting characters. I REALLY, REALLY appreciate that the author wrote them so that they were ALL stand-alone books. I'm not sure why anyone wouldn't WANT to read the whole series. But I am SO STINKING TIRED of authors who just END a book in what seems to be the middle of an event, ostensibly to insure that we are forced to read the next installment. That doesn't always work for me. Sometimes it just pisses me off, insuring that I DON'T read the sequel. Anyhoo.. My only real disappointment is that the series has ended. I can only hope that Ms. Drummond will write a spin-off series to this one. I'll be watching for it.

Enemy of the Fae Caledonia Fae Book 3 eBook India Drummond Reviews

I have grown to love this series. India Drummond is a marvelous writer. Not only do I look forward to reading the balance of the series, but I'll probably read a number of her other titles as well. Start from the beginning because the stories build on each other. The premise is marvelous and the characters are well developed. Highly recommended.
This is a good storyline, but I've read better. I really liked the first book in the series, but it seems the author wanted to go a different way with the story, and to do that everyone needed more powers. It just made it a little less believable that things would play out like this. I know "it's not real" but it makes it a little eye rolling.
I found this book a lot more suspenseful than the other two books, and I also very much enjoyed it. We get to see the characters, especially Eilidh, Quinton, and Griogair, develop in interesting ways throughout the course of this third installment, which would seem to promise some unpredictable future developments in the rest of the series. The magical universe in which the novels are set takes on a lot more depth and resonance in this installment, as we learn more about the culture and history of the faeries and their historical relationship with humans. "Enemy of the Fae" benefits from the same strong writing and excellent pacing that sets the first two books in the series apart from many other fantasy reads. Again, I recommend this book highly to fantasy fans everywhere.
I bought this book as part of the complete set based on reviews, and boy am I glad I did! The returning secondary characters from the second book take center stage with one of the most compelling stories of betrayal I've ever read. The primary plot of the main characters becomes secondary and the players become an ensemble cast. Love the way the author makes us care about her characters, switches points of view in her storytelling, and paints textual imagery that stays with you into the next installment...
I really appreciate the author's style, which is NOT following the formula at all, and surprising you with the direction she maps for her characters. I didn't like some of the decisions she made for her characters, or the twists, but then she led me on further into her stories, and I came to realize that maybe I've been too complacent reading formulaic books and was mindlessly bored with the other books. I am working my way through her series and have added her other books to my wish list. Unique and interesting...dang, who woulda thought this was a good formula??
Ms. Drummond is expanding her Fae world, involving new characters in the plot and focusing in the druids, instead of sorely in Munro and Eilidth relationship. Her world is becoming more complex and rich. The pace is very good and although the suspense is not deep, I devoured the pages just to know what would happen in the story.

There are some drawbacks, however
- Munro seems to be a super-character, who is always discovering new and powerful abilities.
- The druids are always using magic without knowing exactly how. That is, where others expend years to master it, they simply are inspired and always correctly guess what they must do.
- A important character hides a fact from another and it is never explained nor the outcome of this act is known, although it is deeply related to the plot
- From the very beginning, you know who the villain is, even with some misdirection Ms. Drummond tried to use

Albeit these points, the book is very good and a awesome addition to the series. The best of the first three books, IMHO.
The third book in this series finds us back in the Otherworld with our heroine installed as queen. She hasn't quite won over everyone in her kingdom because old beliefs are hard to change. She tries to overcome her people's prejudices but then things happen that challenge her place on the throne.

Add on top of this the stress of having to hide her relationship with her druid, the damage a child's mistake does, and the earth shattering discovery her druid makes and you've got a page turning story that will keep you engaged.

There were parts of the book where the dialogue seemed to drag a bit, but somehow, you just keep going so that you can find out how everything turns out.

I already bought the next two books, just so that I can follow their adventures.
