Rescue is a fast paced time travel story that races the reader to a surprise ending. I loved this story and getting to know new sides of the character's from Rip Van Dyke. I can't wait for the next one!
This is the second book in the Van Dyke time travelling series. It is a fast paced, fun read centered around a hostage situation gone bad (and this alone is worth the read) with an interesting angle about time-travelling. It was fun to look back into 1988 and 1974 ... The main characters are well-depicted and I will watch out for any next books by Kate McLachlan who knows how to write a gripping book (don't start to read when you can't finish the book immediately) !
This book is a cut above most lesbian fiction - with interesting characters and scenarios. The time travel bit is not over-done and not distracting. I read this novel first and now I am looking forward to reading the first one in the series.

The story of Van Hollinger and her band of loyal friends was even more enjoyable the second time around. This time, Van is held hostage in a mock prison takeover gone awry. Patsy is the first-time prison negotiator, with not just her job but her entire world on the line should she fail. Outside the prison walls, their friend Jill believes her time machine, RIP, is Van's only hope. If Jill can send a volunteer back in time to witness a murder, the new information can possibly resolve the current hostage crisis. Desperate to demonstrate her devotion to Van, Bennie volunteers for the time-travel mission. Jill warns Do nothing. But almost immediately, Bennie's presence in the past starts a chain reaction of events that none of them could have foreseen. Will Bennie's foray into the past help Van or seal her fate?
This sequel resolved many questions left unanswered in Rip Van Dyke. Kate skillfully weaves the tension of the hostage negotiations with Van and Patsy's backstory in subtle and endearing ways that enrich the story. Meanwhile, the supporting cast is delightful, particularly Bennie, who risks everything at the chance for love. Through it all, Kate's humor and wit shine through, making me laugh out loud at times. Kate Mclachlan is a fresh, imaginative writer taking lesbian fiction in new directions. Rescue at Inspiration Point a wonderful read that you won't want to miss.
